9 August 2009 (v0.3.4)
- Fixed issue with icons not being loaded, removing an application from the queue bug and updated meta.xml handling when updating HBB
The Homebrew Browser has been upgraded to v0.3.4. Just a few fixes as above.
Download HBB v0.3.4 or run HBB on your Wii to update.
I started HBB 0.3.3 today, and it said there was an update. First time it didn’t work. Second time it updated to 0.3.4 but the title, version, and coder are unknown for the HBB app in HBC. Why is that?
When I open the homebrew channel it does nothing just bubbles, what do I do?
Do you have an /apps folder on the root of your SD card? Do you also have homebrew under that apps folder? E.g. /apps/Snes9x/ ?
Where do u get an apps folder from? Was it originally in the “private” folder? Because if it was, then I accidently deleted it! 🙁 How do you get it back? How do you get it?
If you don’t have any apps folder, you can easily create one while you have your SD card plugged into your computer. You create the /apps directory on the root of your SD card, e.g. F:/apps
I had the same thing, looks like the meta.xml file is getting corrupted, downloading on a peecee and transferring it is fine…
Hmm I guess it just had trouble parsing the XML file, thought I fixed this but I guess not. Can you email me your meta.xml that doesn’t work to teknecal@gmail.com? It might have some weird characters before the entry.
Edit: Nevermind, I was confused, in HBB v0.3.3 it is not working, in v0.3.4 it should work I hope. So the next time you update is the real test.
Thanks 0.3.4 works for me. I also was having issues with the meta.xml so I got one from before and edited it.
teknecal:-
The meta.xml file that does not work is the one that comes in the Homebrew Browser v0.3.4 package.
I downloaded the package on a PC and then moved it across to the SD card and it worked fine..
I think there was something screwed in the update process because as Pinkx said, the update failed first time, compleated the second time but with a zero byte meta.xml file….
I think it’s just v0.3.3 with issues. I’m sure it should be fixed with 0.3.4, so when you update again it should indeed work fine.
Could you test it out for me? By that I mean, replace the HBB boot.dol file with any other file renamed as boot.dol and then load the v0.3.4 HBB via wiiload and let it update (as the boot.dol would be different). I think it should work.
Also the reason things have been stuffing up is because I’m trying to keep the user’s name that they gave the HBB (e.g. “1. Homebrew Browser” so it would appear first on their SD card).
Hi teknecal,
I will have a go tonight if I get a chance, will need to get my head around wiiload first though, not played with that before. In fact I hadn’t Played with homebrew until Friday just gone so am a bit of a noob 🙂
Hi teknecal,
Bit of feedback, sorry it took so long 🙂
As per your suggestion I replaced the HBB .dol file and ran it using WiiLoad, the update process worked fine.
Great, thanks for testing!
Hi, I’m having some problems with HBB, it appears in my Homebrew page and launches fine, but freezes when it gets to “Requesting Homebrew List…” I’ve tried leaving it running for a while to see if it would unblock, but it doesn’t. Any help would be greatly appreciated, and thank you for what looks to be an awesome application!
Hi, has the HBB ever worked for you? I’m assuming you see HBB say “Server check passed” somewhere near the top?
Can you try unplugging all devices like Nunchucks, gamecube controllers, etc and try again?
Thanks for your quick reply! I’ve never used HBB before, and have just successfully installed the Homebrew Channel on a modded Wii. I’m on firmware 3.4e and with a wiikey recently added. I tested the internet access via wifi and got my updated weather info thru the weather channel.
Yes I do get the “server check passed” and all of the other text up until “requesting homebrew list” works.
I don’t have any special devices plugged in, only the Wiimote, the TV and the sensor bar.
I retried just now and got the same result (stuck at “Requesting Homebrew list…”).
Many thanks again!
Hi again,
I just wanted to let you know that suddenly HBB works, and how lovely it is! Great application, thanks a million!
Cecileva
Good to hear 🙂
Sorry if I posted this in the wrong section but when are they coming out with SDHC support?
Can you try out http://www.codemii.com/hbb.v035_newinit.dol ?
Well, it gave a new error message, it said ” Unable to open root filesystem exiting.
i just downloaded savegame manager with 0.3.4 and the meta.xml file got blanked just like 0.3.3 used to do to some apps.
i say some apps, but i only saw this behavior on bootmii config manager and the upgrade to 0.3.4 itself.
it didnt happen every time, so deleting bootmii config and redownloading it worked.
Hi,
I just installed the HBB on my SD but when i start it it returns with the message “Unable to initialise network, retrying…” and that keeps on repeating. But when I run my (boring :-)) Wii software I am able to check the weather (for example). Can you give me a clue since it seems that i’ve lost mine. I saw your request to ping this site. I tried but that didn’t work for me since i’m a n00b on DOS. Looking forward to your reply. Thanks
What kind of wireless encryption are you using? Sometimes change the encryption type to say WEP if you are on WPA may help?
I was having the same issue. I tried changing my security type to WEP without luck. All I did was restart my Wii and it worked. =D
Hey, I have a problem.
Every time I open Homebrew Browser it loads fine until the browser itself opens, then it freezes and goes back to the Homebrew Channel.
The first time it worked and I downloaded some applications but after that it stopped working. I even deleted everything and reinstalled it all but the same problem happens everytime.
It worked again later by removing the Gamecube controller, but now I can’t open the Utilities tab without it freezing and returning to the Homebrew Channel.
Please try removing the temp directory found in /apps/homebrew_browser/
Thank you, It works perfectly now. It’s great.
Hi Can i replace my HBB v0.3.5 to v0.3.4 by droping the old folder ontop of the latest one on my Sd card, as most of my apps [ mainly meda players] dont work anymore?
Thx
Oh if i do will i loose any settings ?
Yes, you can do that although what happens with your media players, why aren’t they working?
You won’t lose your HBB settings.
i downloaded the “teknecal says: August 11, 2009 at 10:40 pm Can you try out http://www.codemii.com/hbb.v035_newinit.dol” because I have a SDHC card. I changed the name to boot.dol and replaced the existing boot.dol in my apps/homebrew_browser folder.
My network initializes / Settings Loaded, and then I get “Read error -116 occurred. Retrying…”. The error repeats. Am I doing this correctly?
Thanks!
