HBB updated to v0.2.3

29 September 2008 (v0.2.3)

  • Rebuilt with latest libfat CVS to fix delete corruption bug (thanks joedj)
  • Added Popular category
  • Updated HBB about information

A quick update for the Homebrew Browser, one to fix the delete corruption bug and to add a Popular category which lists the applications by popularity. I haven’t gotten around to adding the update all button or the installed applications button, but they will be there on the next update.

Download HBB v0.2.3 or run HBB on your Wii to update

Cool, but it seems to be bugged. It doesn’t see all my homebrew as installed, plus it let me “update” some homebrew that I don’t have!

For example I have SnesGX 005 and HBB doesn’t see it (i’ve installed it with HBB 0.2.2), while it let me update the Neo Geo Emu, wich i don’t have.

  3. Dr.Mario says:

Whenever I launch the HBB 0.2.3, it says it failed to initialize the network and exits, I tried deleting it and re-installing it, all that’s left for me to do I guess is try deleting the cache of stored images but I don’t think that will help. The HBC still lights up in the bottom right indicating that it connected to the network. Nothing is different about my wii considering HBB 0.2.2 worked for updating it to 0.2.3.

  4. mwii says:

Dottor_male: The check box is checked properly if you have something installed that is in the “popular” category but it’s not checked for the same program in the normal category. Weird.

  5. yossi says:

i have the same issue as dottor_male and mwii. haven’t fully explored it yet.

i have a really crappy tv, and its hard to tell the difference between the green “installed” check mark and the blue “needs update” check mark.

how about changing the blue one to a more contrasting color (like red)?

  6. bergkees says:

I agree with yossi, the green and blue are very hard to distinguish and yes I also have the same update issue as other people reported.

I’m sure it’s just a minor bug and will be corrected soon.
Keep up the good work. Love your program.

  7. Optron says:

no lan support, only wlan…. very bad

  8. Dr.Mario says:

I’m pretty sure this is the bug I’m experiencing (http://wiibrew.org/wiki/Talk:Homebrew_Browser#Realase_0.2.3_bug)

@yossi the update icon was discussed here http://wiibrew.org/wiki/Talk:Homebrew_Browser#Different_Icons_for_installed.2Fupdate_available
also you can just see if the update button is lit up but i like the new icon that was mentioned in the link

  9. Dr.Mario says:

I believe the bug I have is the same as the one mentioned here. http://wiibrew.org/wiki/Talk:Homebrew_Browser#Wired_Ethernet_no_longer_works_in_0.2.3

@yossi the update icon issue was mentioned here, http://wiibrew.org/wiki/Talk:Homebrew_Browser#Different_Icons_for_installed.2Fupdate_available
i like the solution of the new icon that was posted, http://www.codemii.com/status_update_on.png

ok, it seems that only the emulators section is having issues. the others dont have phantom updateable programs. if you delete a blue checked program that you really dont have, it will fix itself but only until you restart hbb.

also, if i install a program (gecko os) from the utilities section, it is still available to download from the popular section, but only until a restart of hbb.

and i have a problem where wiidoom shows up as not installed, both in games and in popular, yet its clearly there (i can play it). i may have updated it through the popular section this morning, but i dont remember.

  11. dr.mario says:

i said this a couple times so i don’t know why it’s not posting but i’ll try one more time.
I think the issue i referred to a couple posts up is this onehttp://wiibrew.org/wiki/Talk:Homebrew_apps/Homebrew_Browser#Wired_Ethernet_no_longer_works_in_0.2.3
And about the updated app icons, it was discussed here
    http://wiibrew.org/wiki/Talk:Homebrew_apps/Homebrew_Browser#Different_Icons_for_installed.2Fupdate_available
I like the alternate icon that Teknecal posted here

I also updated and HBB could no longer initialize the network. I am on a usb LAN adapter and I would hate to go back to WIFI. Can someone help?

  13. yossi says:

    @Mike For20 & Optron
you can always roll back to v0.2.2 from here: http://www.codemii.com/wiihomebrew/homebrew_browser_v0.2.2.zip

you wont have the “most popular” section, but at least your network will work until next update.

  14. Mr Anon says:

First off I would like to say. This product rocks! It makes homebrew fun to use on the wii and very manageable. Keep up the awesome work.

On a feature request not. A ‘Update All Installed’ would be ggggGOD Like!

Thanks again for the awesome program man!

  15. teknecal says:

Thanks for the bug reports. I think I’ve found the problem which should correct the issue with emulators not been found or saying that they are installed.

The wlan adapter not been initialised is due to the libfat update. I believe that for ftpii, joedj initialised the network before FAT and that seems to work. Let me know if ftpii works with your wlan adapters.

In regards to the popular category not being updated when downloading/deleting applications from other categories and vice versa, I didn’t think about that so didn’t implement it. I’ll fix it soon.

  16. teknecal says:

    HBB has been updated.

    30 September 2008 (v0.2.3a)

    – Wlan adapter should now work with the HBB
    – Applications should now be detected properly
    – When applications are downloaded/deleted from the popular category they will now appear correctly in other categories and vice versa

  17. yossi says:

and the red v.s. blue checks?
guess we have to wait :-/

  18. yossi says:

oh, and i forgot to mention, awesome turn around time on the fix 🙂
